How Air Source Heat Pumps Work

Our sun warms the air around your home, creating a temperature difference, even in the very coldest areas of the UK.

This difference enables you to use a heat pump, to gather the energy you need for heating, hot water, or cooling.

We install the ASHP outside your home and it gently draws air across refrigerant coils, warming the refrigerant inside. This energy is collected and compressed in the heat pump in the same way as a GSHP does, resulting in water temperatures which you can use in your home for heating and hot water.

Daikin Air Source Heat Pump installed - Inafix Ltd Dorset
  • Air source heat pumps are a common installation for many types of homes with thousands of installations across the UK. You just need space outside your home where a unit can be fitted to a wall or placed on the ground, a space that will allow a good flow of air around it.

Unlike a combi boiler, a standard heat pump doesn’t provide hot water on demand. You will need a way of storing hot water for when you need it, with the size of hot water cylinder required depending on the amount of hot water that your household typically uses. Most standard cylinders will usually be fitted inside any cupboard that measures around 80 x 80 cm. Our team at Inafix would discuss your requirements and ensure the best fit for your property.

Saving on Energy Bills

Depending on your current energy supply, installing an air source heat pump could reduce your heating energy bills. Typically, the largest savings are seen when replacing oil, LPG, electric, or old/inefficient natural gas boilers.
